GEORGE HANSEN was born in the Danish province of Schleswig-Holstein on November 2, 1839. He emigrated to the United States at age 28 and arrived in Davenport, Iowa, in June, 1868. He purchased an 80-acre farm seven miles south of Lewis, which he improved. Shortly afterward, he sold this farm and purchased 80 acres in Section 24 of Brighton Township, one mile east of Marne. He married Celia Nickels in 1874 and the couple had two children - Gustav and Emma.
