The Smith Cemetery is located near the center of the south side of section 30 of Pleasant Township and contains one acre. Originally Pleasant Township was a part of Cass Township until 1870 when the county was reorganized to make it civil townships coincide with the congressional. Even though burials started here around 1855, it wasn't until May 6, 1874 that H. Smith conveyed to the trustees of this land. J. Howard Kluever wrote an article for the 1980 Cass County History Book: I first visited this cemetery in October 1977 and found it a pretty burial spot. In May 1979 I once again visited this cemetery and found vandals had done a lot of damage to it. On my first visit I found a stone with the name James Stringham, 1855, but was unable to find it 2 years later. A Steven Stringham was buried Nov. 13, 1857, Margaret Laflar and Hiram Smith in 1858. The last burial was Marsha Groshong in 1964, although I have been unable to find this grave, It is difficult in such an old cemetery to determine how many burials have taken place, but I could Count 80. The place is maintained by taxes administered by the trustees. The Cass County Genealogical Society walked and recorded what stones were still there in 1980 and updated in 1986 by Mrs. Odessa Drake and Bernice Ihrke.
This cemetery was walked and recorded with photographs in April, 2013, by Carolyn DeLay.
