Thomas Meredith came in 1855. He entered land now owned by William Trailor, John W. Berry and others, and pitched his tent in what is since known as Eight-Mile Grove. The family occupied a tent until Mr. Meredith completed the building of a house. An autobiographical sketch of Thomas Meredith, with a reminiscence of early settlement, appears in chapter 6, and any further note of him is unnecessary in this place.
