DR. JOSIAH B. MARTIN

Josiah B Martin, M. D., was born in Laporte county, Indiana, March 1, 1845, and is the son of Josiah and Ellen (Parker) Martin. The subject of this sketch was reared in Indiana, receiving his education in the common schools and at the New Carlisle Collegiate Institute. When about twenty-four years of age, he began the study of medicine under the direction of Prof. Joy, of Chicago. In 1874 he attended lectures at the Bennett Eclectic Medical college, Chicago, and graduated in February, 1877. The following fall he began the practice of medicine at Commerce, Polk county, Iowa, and in September, 1881, came to Griswold. He is a member of the Eclectic Medical society of Iowa, and has a large and lucrative practice. Dr. Martin was united in marriage to S. Almira J. Cramer, a daughter of Job Cramer, of New Jersey. Two children have been born to them--Florence and Edith. The doctor is a master Mason in Cass Lodge No. 412, and is also a member of the Knights of Pythias, Hercules Lodge No. 69.
