Templeton and Dedham are enterprising
young villages that have sprung up on the line of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St.
Paul Railroad, in the southern part of the county. Halbur is a station on the
Iowa Southwestern Railroad, between Carroll and Manning. Charles Walterscheit
has a general store and the post office; A. Hoelker has a general store, and John
Barks a hardware store. Mount Carmel is a village in Kniest Township, having a
Catholic church and a good store.

If you had family that lived in or around Halbur this book is
a must. I have selected some photos from the book to add to the site
however, this is a mere glimpse into this town and the people who resided there.
The book also has detailed family history and genealogy. This money is
well spent if you have the opportunity to purchase a copy of this book.
