F. J. Schelle, dealer in furniture and sewing-machines, Breda, Iowa, was born in Germany, and came to America when a boy. His father died in Germany, and his mother afterward married Henry Janse. The family settled in Delaware County, Iowa, and afterward moved to Dubuque County, where the parents now live. Mr. Schelle passed his youth in Delaware and Dubuque counties, and in 1873 came to Carroll County and bought a farm of 160 acres in Wheatland Township, which he still owns. He also owns a fine farm of 160 acres adjoining his first purchase, which is under good cultivation. In the fall of 1881 Mr. Schelle became established in the furniture business in Breda, and subsequently took an agency for the Iowa Marble Works, and also for several first-class sewing machines. His was the first and is the only furniture store at Breda, and he has built up a good trade. Mr. Schelle was married in Dubuque County to Mary Berning, who died in Breda. They had four daughters, two of whom are living. His present wife was Victoria Ludwig. They have one daughter. In politics Mr. Schelle is Democrat. He has served his township as justice of the peace and treasurer. He and his family are members of the Catholic church, which he is serving as treasurer.~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
