William Heisterkamp was born at Dyersville, Iowa
in 1870, where his parents lived, after coming from Germany. He
came to Carroll
County with his parents locating at Arcadia. After living there several years,
they moved to Ashton, Iowa where they lived for eleven years. In 1899, he
married Louisa Leider at St. Bernard Church in Breda. Louisa Leider was born at
St Lawrence, Wisconsin, and moved with her parents to the farm now owned by
Elmer Grote.
Louisa’s father sold the farm and purchased the
property now known as the “Corner Casino.” Mr. Heisterkamp operated a saloon
there for a number of years and later in the automobile business.
Children of the Heisterkamp family are: Frank,
Joseph, Anton, Mrs. William Poen (Mary), Mrs. Edmund Schulte (Agnes), Leo, Mrs.
Edgar Weber (Eleanor), William, and two children, who died in infancy.
