Mrs. Richard Brugger

Emma Ursula Binkert, daughter of Peter and Wilhelmina Binkert, was born in Bussyville, Wisc., March 7, 1866. When [she was] four years old her parents came to Iowa in a covered wagon and settled on a farm three miles west of Lake City, where they lived for seven years. They returned to Wisconsin in 1877 and in 1882 came back to Iowa.

At the age of 14 the deceased was confirmed in the German Lutheran church. April 2, 1885, she was united in marriage with Richard Brugger and they settled on their farm in Elm Grove Township, where they spent the greater part of their married life. Mr. Brugger preceded his wife in death Jan. 14, 1941.

Mrs. Brugger was bedfast the last four years and five months, but in spite of intense suffering she was always hopeful that she might walk again. She always greeted her friends and relatives with a cheery smile and glad welcome.

Death came to her at her home nine miles northwest of Lake City Jan. 28, 1942, she having reached the age of 75 years. She was the oldest of a family of 12 children, ten of whom survive, one brother passing at the age of 11 years.

Those left to mourn are three sons, M.H. [Micajah Hermann] and Ed. L. Brugger of Lake City and Wm. H. Brugger of Scranton; one daughter, Mrs. Herbert [Josephine] Yetter of Lake City; ten grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; seven sisters—The Misses Nettie, Minnie, Ida and Lillie Binkert, Mrs. J.L. Smith, Mrs. Melvin Peebles of Lake City, Mrs. Grant Packard of Toledo, Wash.; three brothers—Edwin and Edward Binkert of Lake City and Chas. Binkert of Hollywood, Calif.; nephews, nieces and scores or friends, both here and at Estherville, where she spent about four of her last years in the care of her daughter.

Funeral services were held at the Squires funeral home Friday afternoon with the Rev. Claude Faunsnaugh of Estherville officiating. Pall bearers were Paul DeLong, Wesley Parker, George Smith, Paul Robbert, Harry Blair and Earl Yepsen. Music was by Mrs. Wm. Ashford, Miss Phyllis Nurss and L.E. Anderson. Burial was in Lake City Cemetery.
