Hickory Grove Cemetery
Yell Township, Boone County
This cemetery is located in Yell Twp, about 4 miles east of P70, just off of the curve of the black top.
This cemetery was restored, walked and transcribed through death records by Tina Keister May 2006.
This cemetery was once adjacent from the old location of the Hickory Grove School, from stories of many of the old-timers here in the county that lived near and went to the school gave this description of the cemetery.
This cemetery at one time was a little over one acre in size, it had a white picket fence around it. There were many children and whole families buried in this cemetery. Whenever there was a funeral it was usually held in the school near the cemetery and the school bell would ring as the procession of people would carry the departed to the adjacent cemetery across the road. There is reported to be between 40 and 50 burials in this cemetery but only one stone survives, Archibald Gilliland.
