Elizabeth Simpson was born Nov. 8, 1951, to Frank and Ethel (Hobbs) Simpson in Drift, Kentucky. Liz was one of 12 children and very proud to have grown up a coal miners daughter. She graduated from McDowell High School in 1969. She went on to further her education at Cosmetology School in Paintsville, Kentucky. After receiving her degree, Liz decided to follow her brothers' footsteps and join the Army in 1972. She did her basic training at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, her AIT at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, and permanent part at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.

While being stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, she met her husband, Anthony (Tony) Heginger. After nine months of dating and many long trips between the bases they were married Jan. 11, 1974. After their time in the military was over they moved to Tony's hometown of Klemme, Iowa, where she worked for a while before being blessed with their daughter Karen, in 1976. After spending the first year at home with Karen, she returned to work until complications arose with her pregnancy, They laid their second daughter to rest in Jan. 1981.

Over the course of her working years, a few places Liz worked included Kor-bert in Klemme, Armour in Britt, IA, Triggs in Belmond, and until her health no longer allowed her to work, she was at Winnebago.

Tony and Liz enjoyed spending their time together and you will not meet two people more in love with each other than they were. She loved their annual trips to Indiana and occasional trips back to Kentucky to visit her family. They also enjoyed several trips to Arkansas to visit her brother, Billy, before he passed away. Liz enjoyed cooking for her family, doing find-a-word puzzles, and putting puzzles together. She really enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up, and more recently spending time with her great-grandsons. Liz had a wild and crazy sense of humor, and a laugh that will never be forgotten. She was a very kind and compassionate woman that would do anything for anybody.
