Heart Attack Fatal to Mrs. Worthie Usher

Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Klemme Methodist Church for Mrs. Worthie Usher, 53, who passed away at her home here Monday evening as the result of a heart attack. Mrs. Usher was born in Klemme and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Taalkeus Blank. She was educated in the Klemme Schools and in 1924 was married to Worthie Usher. After the marriage, they lived for the most part at Rowan, where they operated a store. A year ago, due to Mrs. Usher's failing health, they sold their store and moved to Klemme. Surviving Mrs. Usher are her husband, two sons, one grandson, three sisters, two brothers, and other more distance relatives.

Services Were Friday For Mrs. Usher, 53

Funeral services for Mrs. Worthie Usher, 53, were conducted from the Klemme Methodist Church at 2 o'clock on the afternoon of Friday, June 4, with Rev. E. Morris Egeland in charge. Mrs. Usher was born in Klemme, received her education here, and lived here until she married Worthie Usher in 1924. After that she lived in Palo, Williams, and Rowan before she and her husband returned to Klemme last year. Mrs. Usher had been ill with a heart ailment for some time, but in the days preceding her death, seemed to be feeling much better than usual. However on Monday evening, May 31, she suffered a fatal heart attack.

Interment was in the Ell Township Cemetery at Klemme, and pallbearers were Milvern Lau, Alfred Lau, T. G. Ahrenkiel, E. A. Gerardi, LeRoy Lau, and Frederick Blank. Osman Funeral Service of Klemme was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Worthie C. Usher, 53, died at her home in Klemme, Monday evening, May 31, 1954. She was feeling better than usual for a diabetic patient, and then, all of a sudden, her heart failed and she was gone. Mrs. Usher, born Minnie Blank, daughter of Taalkeus and Geeske [Ruiter] Blank, was one of a family of ten children. She was born November 19, 1900, in Klemme. She attended the Klemme Schools and graduated with the class of 1920. She became a member of the Klemme Methodist Church by confirmation in 1921. As a teenager, Minnie Blank started working in the Wellemeyer Department Store. She learned to keep the books and then became a saleslady in the dry goods department. Minnie just naturally liked people, and now and then a customer would ask, "Where's Minnie? She knows what I want."

On October 5, 1924, Minnie Blank and Worthie C. Usher were married in the Little Brown Church. They commenced housekeeping in Palo, Iowa where Mr. Usher owned a small store. later he was employed as a manager of a chain store at Rowan and again as manager at Williams, Iowa. In 1934, the Ushers purchased a store building in Rowen and operated a general store for 19 years. A year ago, because of Mrs. Usher's health, they sold out and moved to Klemme. Mrs. Usher reached the age of 53 years, 6 months and 12 days. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Worthie Keus Usher of Smithland, Iowa, and Carroll Eugene Usher of Evanston, Illinois; one grandson, Kenneth Worthie Usher; three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Ahrenkiel, Mrs. Grace Quandt and Miss Marie Blank, all of Klemme; two brothers, Ralph Blank, Iowa Falls, Iowa, and Fred Blank, West Bend, Iowa; and other more distant relatives and friends.
