Richard "Abby" Abbas

October 7, 1937 ---- February 13, 2018

Richard George Abbas, the son of George and Elsie (Eenhuis) Abbas, was born on October 7, 1937, in Kanawha, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the Goldfield and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1955. Richard served in the US Army for two years, from 1960 – 1962 in Fort Bliss, TX. Richard farmed the same farm for over 40 years and raised Belgian Horses for 30 years. He also worked for Sorensen Livestock for 20 years.

Richard was a lifetime (4th generation) member of the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha and the Belgian Draft Horse Association.

Richard passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at the age of 80 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dona Dornath (Larry). Survivors include his sister, Doris Gillespie of Humboldt and her children, Brad Gillespie of Eau Claire, WI (Aimee, Jacob and Isaac) and Diane Nicholson (Mark) of Oskaloosa (Laura); Dona's children, Sarah Dornath of Humboldt, Brenda Dornath of Humboldt and Douglas Dornath of Gilmore City and a dear friend, Grace Schuver of Kanawha.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha with Pastor Brian Hofman officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery in Kanawha. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
