Carrol Heifner, 87, of Klemme passed away Friday, December 1, 2017, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services for Carrol Heifner will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond, with Pastor Pat Kennedy officiating. Burial will take place at Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme. Visitation for Carrol Heifner will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond.

Carrol Quinten Heifner was born August 24, 1930 to Vincent and Ivy (Carlson) Heifner in Algona, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the rural Buffalo Center area, attending country schools and working on the farm. Carrol served in the United States Army during the Korean War in 1952 and 1953. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his time in the service, Carrol returned to farming. He was united in marriage with Fonda Mae Bier at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on August 26, 1959. The couple made their home in rural Buffalo Center until 1970. In 1971, they attended Bible College in Omaha, Nebraska, which led them to work at the Midwest Indian Mission in Crandon, Wisconsin for several years before returning to Iowa. They spent time in the Titonka, Renwick, Kanawha and rural Goodell areas before settling in Klemme in 1984.

In addition to farming, Carrol worked at Eaton Corporation for a number of years, and ran his own small engine repair shop up until the time of his death. He loved working, which was also his hobby, and had a wealth of knowledge of all things John Deere related. Carrol was a member of the Belmond Evangelical Free Church.

Carrol is survived by his sons Galen Heifner of Wausau, Wisconsin and Lowell (Patti) Heifner of Des Moines; daughter-in-law Leslie Heifner of Belmond; grandchildren Jessie Heifner and his children Ezra and Kyler, Tracy (Holden) Tulp and their children Taryn, Rowyn and Huxyn, Thomas (Laura) Heifner and their children Carter, Makayla, Gabe, Taylor and Tristan, Cory (Betsy) Heifner and their daughter Lyla, Brandon (Nicole) Heifner and their children Cameron, Brody and Callen, Kirsten (Shea) Burke; step-grandchildren Jami Thompson and Kyle Thompson; brothers Gerald (Myrtle) Heifner, Virgil Heifner and Cecil (Gertrude) Heifner; sister-in-law Marilyn Heifner and brother-in-law Alvin Hopkes; along with numerous other relatives and friends. Carrol was preceded in death by his parents, wife Fonda in 2008, infant daughter Twyla Rae and son Calvin in 2015.
