Mildred, was born June 13, 1932 on the family farm southwest of Kanawha, the third of eleven daughters born to Edward and Marie (Eenhuis) Eekhoff. She grew up in rural Kanawha and attended country school. She enjoyed working on the farm with her parents. On February 20, 1953 Mildred was united in marriage to Donald Engh at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church parsonage. The couple began a long and loving partnership as they farmed and raised purebred Spotted Hogs south of Kanawha and then moved to the farm north of Kanawha in 1968. She loved gardening and raised and canned much of the family’s food. She also loved having beautiful flower gardens. Mildred loved to cook and bake. Many will remember coming to the farm to purchase hogs or seed and being invited into the kitchen for a delicious lunch. Bringing a complete meal to the field during spring and fall fieldwork or during corn shelling will be remembered. Her grandkids especially loved her kringla, sugar cookies, and pumpkin pie. Following Donald’s death in 1999 Mildred moved into Kanawha and was most recently a resident of the Kanawha Community Home.

Mildred was a lifelong member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. Faith and family were most important to her. She enjoyed singing and always encouraged her sons to be involved in music. She loved going with Don to her sons’ and grandchildren’s activities in church and school. In her latter days, she longed to go “Home” to be with her Lord.

Mildred is survived by two sons: Marvin (Nancy) of Kanawha and their children, Elliot (Katelyn) Engh of Story City and Ellen Engh of Edmond, OK; Robert “Bob” (Rita) of Goldfield and their children, Natalie (David) Boike of Crystal, MN, Christopher, Eric, of Ames, and Shelby, at home; great-grandchildren Ellie and Lucas Boike; sisters: Edna Peterson, Kanawha; Janet Baack, Clear Lake; Ella Josten, Ventura; Esther (Raymond) Helps, Garner; Ida Eekhoff, Kanawha; Marie (Chris) Bunk, Renwick; Lois (Douglas) Ward, Cedar Rapids, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald in 1999, twin sisters Kathy and Sally Jo in infancy, sister Viola, brothers-in-law Donald Eliason, Norman Peterson, Dorance Baack, and Calvin Josten.
