September 23, 1923 --- October 20, 2014

Richard Schilling, 91, of Fort Dodge and formerly of Kanawha, passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Memorial services for Richard Schilling will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the United Methodist Church, 402 North Main Street in Kanawha, with Pastor Mark Heath officiating. Interment will take place at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation for Richard Schilling will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Richard was born on September 23, 1923, on a farm near Jolley, Iowa, to Stephen and Dora (Greve) Schilling. He graduated from Corwith High School in 1942. Richard married Jacqueline Amblie on January 7, 1944 and to this union 4 children were born. After being married, Richard served in the Navy during World War II.

Richard was a lifelong farmer and had many different hobbies including woodworking, telling stories, and listening to music. Richard loved to dance, and in 2012, he met his dance partner Sharon. Richard and Sharon Smith were married in Fort Dodge on May 14, 2013.

He will be remembered as a family man and having a great sense of humor. Richard would want you to always remember to work hard and play hard.

Richard is survived by his wife Sharon of Fort Dodge; his children, Janice Rowray of Waterloo, Steven (Pam) Schilling of Palatine, Illinois, Lori (Rick) Nielsen of Rochester, Minnesota, and Joy (David) Halfpap of Clear Lake; 9 grandchildren, Rachel Rowray, Jeremy Rowray, Erica (Rick) Ramirez, Brittany Pishotta, Terry Schilling, Joe Nielsen, Heather (Travis) Hunsaker, Ethan Halfpap, Levi Halfpap; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and wife Jackie in 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make memorial contributions to the charity of your choice.

Richard (Dick) Schilling, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Kanawha, will celebrate his [90th] birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the central community room at the Belmond Community Apartments, at 116 Luicks Lane, Belmond.
Cards may be sent to him at 1683 13th Ave. N., Fort Dodge, IA 50501. His family includes wife Sharon; Janice Rowray, Waterloo; Steve and Pam Schilling, Palatine, Ill.; Lori and Rick Nielson, [Nielsen] Rochester, Minn.; and Joy and Dave Halfpap, Clear Lake.

Schilling was born on a farm near Jolley on Sept. 23, 1923. As a young man, he moved to the Kanawha area where he graduated from Corwith High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and worked briefly for Bell Aircraft, in Buffalo, N.Y., before returning to the Kanawha area where he farmed for many years.
