January 15, 1917 -- February 11, 2014

CLEAR LAKE, IA -- Sena Margereta Christensen, 97, of Boone, Iowa, formerly Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away February 11, 2014, at the Westhaven Community, Boone, Iowa. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa, with Rev. Carl Hedberg of St. John Lutheran Church, rural Garner, Iowa, officiating. Visitation will be Sunday one hour before the service. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, rural Garner, Iowa. Memorials can be made to St John Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.

Sena Christians was born on January 15, 1917, on her parent's farm northeast of Klemme, Iowa, the daughter of John and Christina (Ennenga) Christians. She graduated from Garner, Iowa, high school in 1934. She married Harry LaVern Christensen on April 4, 1937, at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme, Iowa. They were farmers and she helped with the farm work. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, gardening, playing cards and fishing.

Sena is survived by her two children, daughter Diana (Bud Willock) Glidden of Trempealeau, Wisconsin, and a son Kenton (Marilyn) Christensen, Hibbing, Minnesota; grandchildren, Terri (Denny) Van Hemert, Jeffrey (Kitty) Glidden, Kurtis (Michelle) Christensen, Kiley (Caroline) Christensen and Kindalyn (Jason) Spears; great-grandchildren, Autumn, Summer, Moriah, Morgynn and Payton; sister, Elsie (Bill) Wilson of Ventura, Iowa; sister-in-law Iona (Harlan) Nuehring of Mason City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Sena was preceded in death by a daughter Terri Sue, her parents, husband Harry LaVern on April 10, 2004, half brothers, Peter, Harm, Edward and John Christians, half sister Grace Merkel, brothers, Karsjen, Harold and Duane Christians, sisters, Anna Smith, Emma Nueberger, Henrietta Tibbits and infant brothers Elde and Adam. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th street, Clear Lake, Iowa.
