BRITT -- Helen Dena Smidt, 94, of Britt went home to be with our Lord, Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha. Funeral services for Helen Smidt will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 480 Main Ave. North, in Britt, with Pastor Greg Baum officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Monday.

Helen was born April 13, 1919, to John and Jennie (Abbas) Baker. She married Henry Smidt on July 8, 1937. To this union they had two sons, Ronald and Henry. Helen owned and operated the Gift Nook and Bible Store in Britt for many years. She loved sewing, making floral arrangements and many other craft items. Her tea pot was always on for anyone who would stop and chat.

Helen is survived by her two sons: Ronald (Marvea) Smidt of Britt and Henry (Gayle) Smidt of Tallahassee, Fla.; one sister, Emma Applehons of West Des Moines; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Pilkin of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 10 sisters and brothers. Ewing Funeral Home, 178 Center St. West, Britt, IA.
