Lavon Irene Hain, 88, Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. A Funeral Service was held Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Klemme, Iowa, with Rev. Donna Buckman officiating. Interment was at Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lavon Hain’s family.

Lavon was born June 4, 1924 near Belmond, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Bessie (Schmidt) Foss. She attended the rural school. She lived with her sister and helped take care of their children near Alexander. Lavon married Elmer Meinders on March 12, 1944 in Mason City. They farmed northeast of Klemme until they moved to Clear Lake in 1962. She worked in the kitchen for Halford’s Café and later Pedelty Brothers Sale Barn in Clear Lake and Garner. In 1972 they moved to Mason City. Lavon married Claude Hain on Nov. 28, 1981 in Ventura, Iowa, where they resided. Claude passed away in 2001. She then moved to Kentucky Ridge and later Good Shepherd, both in Mason City.

Lavon loved dancing, cooking, baking (she was known for her cream pies) and working in the garden. She also enjoyed playing cards, camping, fishing, garage sales and auctions. She belonged to the ODO Club in Hancock County.

Lavon is survived by three children, Linda (Roger) Beier, Byron, Minn., Richard Meinders Sr., Manly, Iowa, Larry (Lorri) Meinders, Mason City; stepchildren, Mary (Larry) Nutting, Aitkin, Minn., Shirley Hain, Mason City, and Joan Jones, Kansas City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Amy, Nancy, Bryan, Paula, Richard Jr., Jay, Joshua, Shayne, Tiffany, Heidi, Megan, Hilary and Cody; 14 step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Lavon was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elmer Meinders (1980) and Claude Hain (2001); three siblings, Roy Foss, Donald Foss and Leona Blau; two step-children, Marshall Hain and Clara Frank; and step son-in-law, Gene Jones. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
