Twila Schroeder, 87, of Kanawha, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012, at her home in Kanawha. Funeral services for Twila Schroeder will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Kanawha Lutheran Church, 124 West 4th Street, with Pastors Char and Geoffrey White officiating. Burial will be at the Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street, in Kanawha and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Twila Ruth Eckstrom was born July 16, 1925, in Ames, Iowa, the only child of Carroll and Minnie (Nelson) Eckstrom. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Ames, and confirmed at the Kanawha Lutheran Church. In 1943 she graduated from Kanawha High School. From then until her marriage, she was employed at Central Life Insurance Company in Des Moines. On September 15, 1946, Twila married former classmate William Schroeder. They had been co-salutatorians of their graduating class. Twila and Bill made their home on the Schroeder farm north of Kanawha until moving into town in July of 1979. Two children were born to them: Steve Alan and Karen Sue. Twila served as an organist at the Kanawha Lutheran Church for 63 years. She was also active in the work of the church and community, including writing and directing the pageant for Kanawha’s Centennial celebration in 1999.

Twila is survived by her husband Bill of Kanawha; son Steve (Pat) Schroeder; daughter Karen (Larry) Lang; three grandchildren: Sam Schroeder, Kathy (Americo) Maldonado and Jim (Suzi) Lang; six great-grandchildren: Yuvia, Andres, Miguel, Aaron, Isaiah and Elsa; along with other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Minnie Ellsworth.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lift Fund at Kanawha Lutheran Church.
