Vernon Alfred Jurgemeyer, 67, of St. James, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System, St. James. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 5, at First Lutheran Church in St. James with Revs. Christian Johnson and Ken Bowman officiating. Burial was in Concord Cemetery, Garner, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the St. James Ambulance or St. James Hospital Foundation. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.

Vernon was born June 26, 1945, in Garner, Iowa, the son of Alfred William Jurgemeyer and Gladys Louise (Meinders) Jurgemeyer. He graduated from Klemme High School, Klemme, Iowa, in 1963. Vern received his B.S. in Dairy Science from Iowa State University in February 1967. Vern was an active member of 4-H and the ISU Dairy Judging Team, served as an IFYE Ambassador to Israel in 1967, and started farming in 1967. On Aug. 23, 1970, Vern was united in marriage to Diane M. Feldt in Garner, Iowa. In May 1985, Vern became an ag lender with the Farmers Home Administration in Garner, moving to the Hancock National Bank of Garner in 1990. In 1995, Vernon started work at Odin State Bank in Odin, MN, and in 2004, began working as the ag loan officer at First National Bank in St. James. Vern was a member of the St. James Chapter of Rotary International, MN Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association, and First Lutheran Church, where he had served as a council member.

Vern is survived by his wife, Diane Marie Jurgemeyer of St. James; daughters, Raquel (Mike) Linch of Creston, Iowa and Karla Jurgemeyer of Northfield; mother, Gladys Jurgemeyer of Garner, Iowa; two grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Egon Weaver of Boone, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Jurgemeyer; and sister, Elaine Weaver.
