March 24, 1938 --- June 5, 2012

Myra Ethelene Jackson, 74, of Kanawha, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Kanawha Community Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha, with Pastor Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street, in Kanawha and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

KANAWHA — Myra Ethelene Jackson, 74, of Kanawha, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Kanawha Community Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha with Pastor Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 8, from 5-7 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street in Kanawha, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ethelene, the daughter of Robert and Iredell Privette Ward, was born March 24, 1938, in Franklin County, N.C. She was baptized in the Rock Spring Baptist Church. Ethelene graduated from Bunn High School in 1956 where she loved playing basketball. She then attended and graduated from Park View Hospital School of Nursing three-year RN program in 1959. In 1960, Ethelene married Gene Hall of Britt. The couple made their home in the Kanawha and Britt area where Ethelene worked part-time at HCMH.

To this union two children were born, Elizabeth Ann and Scott Duane. In 1966, the family moved to Oxford, North Carolina, where Ethelene supervised a medical clinic at Murdoch Center in Butner, N.C. The family returned to the Kanawha area in 1975, and the following year Ethelene started working at the Kanawha Community Home as Director of Nursing. She enjoyed the residents, families and co-workers. Many hours were enjoyed attending the activities of her children. Ethelene was united in marriage to Lewis “Junior” Jackson on November 18, 1988. They liked spending time together dancing and going on fishing trips up north. Ethelene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kanawha where she was active with the United Methodist Women. She loved cooking, spending time with her family, making cookies with her grandchildren, reading and working with flowers.

Ethelene is survived by her husband, Lewis “Junior,” of Kanawha; daughter, Beth Burrs of Britt; daughter-in-law Jamie Hall of North Carolina; step-daughter Janet (Vern) Dietel of Kanawha; grandchildren, Tricia (Duane) McGregor and their children Duane, Remington and Avery; Cassie (Bruce) Collins and their children Amelia and Isaiah; Dan (Melissa) Burrs and their children Julia and Jacob; Caitlin, Brianna, Hanna and Thomas Hall; Jenny (Al) Eden and their children Delaney, Brooklynn and Jackson; Jaime Yeakel (friend Mike); sister Ann (Don) Strickland of Florida; sister-in-law Betty Ward of North Carolina; along with numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Scott Hall; brothers Bobby and Jimmy; and her infant sister. Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street, Kanawha, Iowa.
