September 20, 1913 -- July 21, 1984

Leon C. Lemke was born Sept 20, 1913 the son of Henry William Fredrick and Daisy C. (Greiman) Lemke on the family farm near Klemme. He was one of five children born to the Lemke family. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner and became a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. He attended the rural schools of Hancock County, Garner Public School and Klemme Public School. He grew up on a farm in the Klemme area where he also worked for various farmers. Leon worked at the Chevrolet-Oldsmobile Dealership in Garner for over 45 years as a mechanic. During W.W. ll he served his country in the European Theater from 1942-1945. Leon married Veronica LaVon Knoll on January 15, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. They made their home in Garner their entire married life. Leon had been in ill health since October of 1983 as result of cancer. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fifth Armoured Division Association. He is survived by his wife, LaVon; his children, Mrs. Del (Renee) Carolus, Gary and his wife Linda, Douglas Lemke; 5 grandsons; 2 sisters, Mildred McLaughlin and Marjorie Hefte; and 2 brothers, Donald and Marvin Lemke. He was preceded in death by his parents. ... Burial in Saint Boniface Cemetery, Garner, Iowa.
