BELMOND, IA - Leonard J. (Lenny) Ausborn, age 76, of Belmond, passed away Friday (Oct. 22, 2010) at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services for Lenny Ausborn will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 115 Fourth Ave. S.E. in Belmond. The Rev. James Harbaugh will officiate. Burial will take place in the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme. Visitation for Lenny Ausborn will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 24, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S., in Belmond and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Leonard John, the son of Albert and Anna Groh Ausborn, was born on Feb. 15, 1934, in Kanawha. Along with his family, Lenny grew up in the countryside. He attended country school through the eighth grade. Lenny lived with his parents, working on the farm. He loved raising Bantam chickens and loved horses. Later, Lenny would live with his brother, Harvey. Lenny entered Duncan Heights in 1990. He lived there until 2003, when he entered the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Lenny was a bright wonderful human being that lit up a room with life. He liked playing with his nieces and nephews and teased them, and others, without mercy. Leonard was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, where he was a life-long member. Church and family meant very much to Lenny. He so looked forward to family gatherings.

Leonard is survived by his brother, Robert and wife Mary of Ames; two sisters-in-law, Corrine Ausborn of Britt and Nellie Ausborn of Belmond; fourteen nieces and nephews; numerous other great and great great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Harvey, Ervin and Don. Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S., Belmond.
