Mary Jane Varnum was born April 20, 1932 at Webster City, Iowa to Fred and Bonnie (Mullins) Varnum. She attended school at Pontiac, Michigan and three years after her father Fred’s retirement in 1965, the family moved to Corwith. Mary Jane became a resident of Cherokee and later Kathleen’s Care Center in Emmetsburg. She became a resident of Kanawha Community Home in January 1995 and died there on Monday, October 31, 2005 at the age of 73. Mary Jane enjoyed being around babies and collecting stuffed animals. While living in Emmetsburg, she participated in the Special Olympics and won a state metal. Mary Jane is survived by 13 cousins, Darlene Larsen of Ames, Iowa; Betty Shipman of Corwith, Iowa; Marlys Pals of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Jim Mullins of Corwith, Iowa; Rich and Tom Mullins of Arizona; Bill Mullins of Algona, Iowa; Charles Mullins of Austin, Texas; Howard Mullins of Corwith, Iowa; Donald Mullins of Osceola, Iowa; Pat Estrada of California; Marilyn England and Bob Reed, both of Utah. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents.
