GARNER, IA - Thomas Roths Jr., 74, of Garner, died Thursday (Sept. 7, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner, with Pastor Roger Kallem officiating. Inurnment will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner, with a flag presentation ceremony by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Monday.

Thomas Francis Roths Jr., the son of Thomas Francis Sr. and Leoda Elizabeth (Smith) Roths, was born July 17, 1926, on a farm near Klemme. He attended school at Klemme and then worked in a shipyard in Vancouver, Wash. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Europe during WW II. After his discharge, he worked at several different jobs until he took over the management of the Roth's Café in Klemme. He also worked for E.G. Greiman Construction, LaHarve Construction in Forest City and Yohn Ready Mix Concrete Co. in Garner. He had served as a volunteer fireman in Klemme for many years. Junior enjoyed traveling, driving his truck and visiting with people. He was a lifetime member of the Garner V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Garner; five children, Elizabeth I. Roths, Karen M. Roths, Thomas J. Roths and his wife, Candice, Sara A. Roths, and Michelle K. Roths; four stepchildren, Rodney T. Spieker and his wife, Cheryl, Jaclyn A. Liska and her husband, Jim, David Spieker and his wife, Michelle and Scott Spieker and his wife, Lisa; five grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and a brother, Robert L. Roths and his wife, Helen, of Garner. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a step-granddaughter, Vanessa Spieker. Cataldo Funeral Home.
