GARNER, IA -- Elvira Doble, 73, of Garner, died Friday (July 26, 1996) at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with 7 p.m. service conducted by the Garner VFW Auxiliary.

Elvira Luella Doble, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Boehnke) Hollatz, was born Oct. 25, 1922, at Garner. She attended school at St. John's Parochial School through sixth grade and then the Garner Community Schools where she graduated in 1940. After receiving her executive secretarial training at Hamilton's Business College in Mason City, she worked as a cashier at Gildner's Men's Clothing in Mason City, as a secretary at O'Connor's Manufacturing Company in Mason City, and from 1942-1945, she was a secretary to B.C. Berge in Garner. On Sept. 12, 1944, she was married to George Doble at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, Ill. In 1946, they began farming northeast of Garner and in 1957 continued farming southeast of Klemme. After purchasing the Sport Bowl in 1960, they moved to Garner. In 1962, Elvira was employed as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools of the Garner-Hayfield Community School. She continued in this position for 25 years, retiring in 1987. Music was the highlight in her life and for a number of years she sang with the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed her family singing as a group. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, LWML, Ruth Circle, St. Paul Choir, the American Legion Auxiliary and was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary in Garner.

She is survived by her husband, George Doble of Garner; four sons, Dennis Doble of Garner; Joel Doble and his wife, Michelle, of Garner; Curtiss Doble and his wife, Michelle, of Shoreview, Minn., and Bill Doble and his wife, Pat, of Garner; a son-in-law, Stan Greiman and his wife, Michele, of Garner; 13 grandchildren, Brian Doble and his wife, Jacquie; Sara Doble; Lori Doble; Ed Greiman and his wife, Cindy; Angie Homann and her husband, Dave; Matt Greiman; Nikki Doble; Misty Doble; Nathan Doble; Amanda Doble; Megan Doble, Staci Doble and Jasmine Doble; stepgrandsons, Brandon Stromer and Jamie Stromer; great-granddaughter, Taylor Sue Homann; a sister, Ella Wetterling of Garner; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hollatz of Garner. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Greiman, Sept. 6, 1985; her parents; an infant sister, Erna Hollatz; a brother, Conrad Hollatz; and a brother-in-law, Earl Wetterling.
