Elmer L. Larson, 83, of 101 N. Main, Ventura, died Saturday (Jan. 20, 1996) at the Americana Nursing Home in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Ventura, with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Interment will be in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. to receive friends. The family suggests memorials to the Ventura United Methodist Church or Ventura Senior Citizens Center.

Elmer was born July 6, 1912, in Mason City, the son of John and Mary (Kolling) Larson. He graduated from Klemme High School and continued his education at Coyne Electrical School, Chicago, Ill. Elmer came back and farmed west of Klemme and later moved to farm south of Ventura. He married Marjorie Bachman. They moved into Ventura in 1963. Elmer worked for Ventura schools as a custodian and bus driver. Marjorie preceded him in death on April 19, 1977. On Dec. 19, 1981, he married Ida June Hoeft. She preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 1993. Elmer liked to garden and was active in Ventura Senior Citizens. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Ventura.

Elmer is survived by five sons, Cecil Larson and his wife, Karen, of Sioux City; John Larson and his wife, Marilyn, of Sioux City; Gerald Larson and his wife, Ann, of Dallas, Texas; Keith Larson of Cherokee, and Wayne Larson and his wife, Sally, of Tacoma, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Schotanus and her husband, Gerald, of St. Ansgar, and Evelyn Knudtson and her husband, Victor, of Lake Mills; two stepsons, Thomas Hoeft and his wife, Kaye, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Robert Hoeft and his wife, Betty, of Ventura; 14 grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 20 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lenora Mients of Klemme, and Sylvia Early of Mason City; and one brother, Jim Larson of Belmond. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; one grandson, Russell Larson; two brothers; and three sisters.
