December 17, 1861 -- July 21, 1948

Taldine Margarethe Suckow was born December 17, 1861 at Bunderhee, Germany, the eldest of a family of ten children born to her parents John B. and Catherine Brouwer. At the age of eight, Taldine moved to America with her parents, they farmed for a while in Hardin County near Eldora, and then moved to Hancock County. Here the Brouwer family took root, and stayed as this seemed to be, and still is, a grand spot for a farmer to build his home and live a happy life. In November 1887, two years after the Liberty Methodist Church was built, Taldine Brouwer and Henry L. Suckow were married by the Rev. J. J. Spicker. They established a farm home a mile south of the Liberty Church, broke the prairie and, built a few buildings, dug a well, planted a grove, and continued to improve their farm year after year. Here, Henry and Taldine Suckow were a part of Liberty Township life for 32 years. Henry Suckow, besides his farming was Justice of the Peace, and held various offices for the township, for the school and for the church. Taldine Suckow was always smiling and happy. She was blessed with good health, and accepted the job of rearing seven children most willingly, and seemed to think her neighbors were all grand people, and thus, thru all of her long life she had many friends.

In 1919, Henry and Taldine Suckow retired from the farm and moved to Klemme. Thirteen years, later, in 1932, the husband Henry Suckow passed away. Since then Taldine has made her home with the Herman Paul family. Some weeks ago, Taldine Suckow suffered a hip fracture, from which she would have recovered, but, it seemed her time had come, and she became very tired and fell asleep on Monday morning, July 21st, 1948. Age 86 years, 7 months: and 4 days.

She leaves of her immediate family: Seven children: Etna, Mrs. Herman Paul, Garner; John H. Suckow, Klemme, Iowa; Mae, Mrs. Lawrence Schaefer, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Carl Suckow, Jennings, La.; Rev. Will M. Suckow, Van Meter, Ia.; Louis Suckow, Mason City, Iowa; Henry Suckow, Klemme, Iowa. One sister: Mrs. Henry Stromer, Dallas, Oregon. Two brothers:
Ralph Brouwer, Waseca, Minn. Will Brouwer, Garner, Iowa. Also 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
