February 21, 1890 ---- December 20, 1979

Roy I Schaefer, son of Edward and Mary Suckow Schaefer, was born February 21, 1890, on a farm in Liberty Township. He attended the rural schools of Liberty Township and took the courses at Klemme High School. He also attended college at Charles City. June 6, 1917, he married Cora May Gates at the farm of her parents southeast of Klemme. They farmed southwest of the Klemme on the family farm until 1941, when they retired from active farming and moved into Klemme. He owned and operated Schaefer's Garage for several years and then worked at the Hemp Plant during World War II. For many years he worked as a soil drainage contractor and plumber in Klemme. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Emory (Violet) Weaver of Garner, Mrs. Dennis (Rose) Trca of Garner, Mrs. Edward (Daisy) Barz of Kanawha, and Mrs. Jerry (Iris) Gesinshi of Klemme; three sons, Merle of Los Angeles, California, Eugene and his wife Gloria, of Milford, and Calvin (Joe) and his wife Mildred, of Garner; 29 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Herold (Mable) Ridder, Garner. He was preceded in death by his wife Cora, in April of 1970; a son, Donald, in 1972; a granddaughter, Twila Schaefer, in 1960; his parents and two brothers, Elmer and Ben.

Services were held in the United Methodist Church, Klemme, on Monday December 24, 1979, at 11:00am. Organist was Mrs. Madelyn Priebe. Casketbearers were Virgil Stille, Ed Tiggeman, Byrnes Lemke, Quentin Stille, Forrest Langlitz, and Harry Anderson. Burial was in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
