Elmer Irwin Krauss, son of Jacob and Agnes Sloan Krauss was born January 17, 1912, on a farm near Kanawha, Iowa. He attended rural schools in Magor Township in Hancock County. He farmed in the Corwith area until his retirement in 1979. On May 3, 1943, Elmer was united in marriage to Eunice Champion. To this union three children were born, a son, who died in infancy and two daughters. Eunice died in July 1959. Elmer was married to Martha Bjornson on August 2, 1960. They lived on the farm where Elmer did diversified farming until his retirement in 1979. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Corwith. He served as treasurer of the Sunday School for many years and was active in Lutheran Brotherhood fellowship group. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

Elmer died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa, at the age of 94. He is survived by his wife, Martha, of Britt, Iowa; daughters, Evelyn and husband Marvin Hopf of Orient, Iowa; Shirley and husband Dale Leemaster of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming; grandchildren, Denise Hopf of Earlham, Iowa, and Brian Hopf and wife Crystal of Stanton, Iowa. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Edith Krauss of Corwith, Iowa, and Alice Champion of Britt, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eunice; infant son, Paul; and two brothers, Lester and George Krauss.
