BRITT, IA--Julia V. Gelder, 80, died Friday (July 25, 1997) at the Kanawha Community Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. David Daley officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Julia, the daughter of Bertus and Hulda Schmidt DeNeui, was born July 27, 1916, on a farm near Wellsburg. When she was four years old she moved with her family to Hardin County near Steamboat Rock, where she grew up. On March 30, 1937, Julia was united in marriage with Henry Gelder at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Steamboat Rock. After their marriage, they farmed in the Wellsburg area and later in the Buffalo Center, Forest City and Woden areas. In 1959, they moved to Britt. Julia worked at Winnebago in Forest City and the Westview Care Center in Britt. She loved to fish and play bingo. Julia was also an avid walker. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Britt.

Julia is survived by three daughters, Darlene Heginger and her husband, Carl, of Klemme, Beverly Nielsen and her husband, Roger, of Britt, and Joice Hill and her husband, Spencer, of Kanawha; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marcella Potthoff and her husband, Ray, of Jesup. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and two brothers.
