Hamblin Roger Allaben

H. R. Allaben was born on March 6, 1892, at Goodell, Iowa, son of William and Vinnie (Redmond) Allaben. Ham received his education and graduated from Goodell High School. Ham was the first photographer in Wright and Hancock counties, traveling on his motorcycle taking pictures. He continued this occupation after serving his country during WW I and after living at Hibbing, Minn. for a short time he moved to Traer in 1923. Ham opened a photography shop on Main street Traer which he operated as well as being active in community affairs. Ham served as a trustee of the Traer Municipal Utilities for nearly 30 years and was still listed as an honorary trustee at the time of his death. He was also active in the American Legion Post and served as the rental superintendent of the Legion Housing project for many years in Traer. He was also a charter member of Hesperia Lodge No. 340 AF & AM in Traer and served as a District Lecturer in the area for many years. In more recent years Ham had resided at Sunrise Hill Care Center at Traer where he died on Friday, Oct. 9, 1981, at the age of 89 years.
