Lowell Dale "Pete" Petersen, 68, of Durant, Oklahoma, died on Sunday, June 3, 2001, at his home in Durant. Graveside services were held on Friday, June 8, at the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell. Interment was in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell. Casket bearers were the Veterans of the Belmond Honor Guard and the American Legion of Goodell.

Lowell, the son of Clarence and Inez Oleson Petersen, was born on February 21, 1933, in Hollandale, Minnesota. He went to grade school in Hollandale and LeRoy, Minnesota. After moving to Iowa he graduated from the Latimer High school. He served in the United States Army in Europe and then he returned to Mason City, where he worked as a union carpenter. Lowell was united in marriage to Thelma Alm in 1974 in Colorado. The couple later moved to Oklahoma. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and collecting coins.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Thelma in 1997; and one brother. Survivors are his four sisters, Darlene Huebner of Anthony, Florida, Lucille Lauden and her husband, Ole of Thornton, Janet Roderick of Fort Dodge and Carole Molencamp and her husband, Ron of Des Moines.
