KANAWHA — Viola Lillian Hall, 83, passed away Friday (Jan. 2, 1998) at the Kanawha Community Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Susan Detwiler officiating. Interment will be in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Viola, the daughter of Morris and Ossie Sandes Smith, was born Nov. 13, 1914, in Britt. She attended school in Britt and graduated from the Britt High School. She also attended Britt Junior College. She was united in marriage with Gilbert Hall in Mason City. The couple farmed many years in the Wesley area until moving to their farm south of Britt in 1954. The couple wintered for many years in Florida and Texas. They were members of the Wig-Wam and Wagon Campers Club. After their retirement they both drove motor homes for Winnebago. Viola enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, the Rebekahs and the Homemaker Club.
Those thankful for sharing her life are her two daughters, Jeanette and her husband, Vic Dreyer of Lone Rock, and Janice and her husband, Harold Philp of Keokuk; her two sons, Gene Hall of Omaha, and Jerry Hall of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1995; granddaughter, Debra Dreyer; grandson, Gary Johnson; son-in-law, Babe Johnson; three brothers, Richard Smith, Harold Smith, and William Peck; a great-great-granddaughter; and a granddaughter-in-law, Cindy Johnson.
