KANAWHA - Delia VanderPloeg Delger, 91, of Kanawha, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 28, 2007) at Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral services for Delia Delger will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Steve Schulz officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel in Kanawha and one hour prior to services at the church.

Delia, the daughter of Albert and Jennie Eekhoff VanderPloeg, was born March 7, 1915, near Kanawha. She lived her entire life in the Kanawha area. Delia graduated from Kanawha High School with the class of 1932 and served as the senior class president. She then graduated from the teaching program at the Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and taught country school in the Corwith area. On October 14, 1940, Delia married Tom Delger and to this union three children were born. Delia was a 'stay at home' mom until her children were older. Then she clerked in a local grocery store, sold Avon, helped the town clerk write out the water bills and did the bookkeeping for her husband's business. Delia was known to generously share her cooking and baking especially her "famous" circle bread and divinity. She was a confessing member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church where she was involved in serving her Lord in many ways. Even when old age dimmed her eyesight, she read and studied her Bible everyday and continued to share with and care for those around her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Virginia Christians and husband, Ron, of Kanawha; two sons, Timothy and wife, Linda, of Des Moines and Paul of Kanawha; six grandchildren, Karen Parham and her husband, Percy, Todd Christians and his wife, Diana, Dr. Kathleen Christians and Charles Christians, Shelley Bougher and husband, Dan, and Brent Delger; five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Joshua Christians, Danielle Parham, Arianna Christians and Carson Bougher; and one sister, Ann Blank; and her husband, Raymond, of Kanawha. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom in 2000; two brothers, four sisters and two grandsons.
