Mason City Globe Gazette, IAOviedia Michelson, 94, of Kanawha passed away Monday (May 26, 2008) at The Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha. Funeral services for Oviedia Michelson will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 30, at the Kanawha Lutheran Church in Kanawha with Pastor Lee Nelson and Janelle Siffring, AiM, officiating. Burial will take place at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation for Oviedia Michelson will be held one hour prior to services today at the church.
Oviedia, the daughter of Abel and Mary (Fosen) Omvig, was born and attended rural school in a farming neighborhood near Kanawha. Oviedia lived her whole life in the Kanawha area. Oviedia was united in marriage with Ernest Michelson on March 15, 1938, at the Kanawha Lutheran Church Parsonage with the Rev. M. N. Peterson performing the ceremony. The couple made their home and farmed near Kanawha. They were blessed with one child, Lois Jean, who passed away in June of 2000. Oviedia also worked at Crist Drug Store and Anderson Department Store for a number of years. Oviedia and Ernie moved into the Kanawha Community Home on Aug. 5, 2003.
Oviedia is survived by two grandchildren, Tracy Abbas Lillard and husband, Dave, and their daughter, Katie, of Van Meter, and Dan Abbas and his wife, Monica and their children, Jacob and Briana, of Kanawha; two sisters, Ceceilia Roskamp of Kanawha and Mabel Peterson of Britt; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ernie; daughter, Lois; four brothers: Joe, Oren, John and Arthur; and two sisters: Alice Asche and Synneva Abbas. Arrangements are with the Ewing Funeral Home, 118 E. Second St., Kanawha.
