John Harry Peters, 92, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 1992 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa. John, the son of Harry J. and Tena Veldhouse Peters, was born December 23, 1899 at Aplington, IA. He moved with his parents to Hancock County in 1900. On February 24, 1925, he was united in marriage with Tena Abbas at the Christian Reformed Parsonage in Kanawha. The couple farmed until their retirement in June, 1952 when they moved into Kanawha. John was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha. He served as deacon, church treasurer, sang in the church choir and was Sunday School Treasurer for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Tena Peters; one son, Harry and his wife, JoAnn, all of Kanawha, IA; three grandsons: Roger and his wife, Marilyn and Meleah and Danny of Lakeville, MN; Richard and his wife, Julie and Jasmine of Kanawha, IA; Richard and his wife, Peggy and Jonathon of Hampton, IA; one sister, Jennie Johnson of Kanawha, IA.

Services were held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 27, 1992 at the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha, IA. Rev. Robert Brenton officiated. Mrs. Marilyn DeKruyff was the organist and Robert Engh was the soloist, singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord". Congregational hymns included "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" and "For All the Saints". Burt Coeling and Norman Mehl served as ushers. Pallbearers included: Roger, Russell and Richard Peters, Lanny Lolling, Jim Trenary and Don Abbas. Interment was in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Kanawha, IA. Services were under the direction of the Ewing Funeral Home.
