Bernard G. Abbas Dies Suddenly

Kanawha, IA--Bernard G. Abbas, son of the late George B. and Elizabeth Abbas, passed away at his home at 12:00 a.m. Wednesday July 23, 1952, following a heart attack. Mr. Abbas was born November 29, 1906, on a farm four miles west and 1 ½ miles south of Kanawha, where he spent his childhood and attended the rural school. Later, he moved with his parents to their home in Kanawha. He was united in marriage with Synneva Omvig, making Kanawha their home. This union was blessed by four children. Mr. Abbas was baptized by the late Rev. C. Bode of the Christian Reformed Church. In 1939 he was confirmed in the Kanawha Lutheran church.

He is survived by his widow, Synneva; one son, Harvey, and one daughter, Marjorie; four sisters Tillie (Mrs. John Smidt) of Blooming Prairie, Minn; Mrs. Cora Smidt and Allie (Mrs. Henry Smidt) of Britt, and Florence (Mrs. Ben Ruter)of Kanawha, one brother, George G. Abbas, of Goldfield, and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Ronald and Roger, his parents, and one sister, Fannie (Mrs. Nick Veldhouse).

Mr. Abbas became ill after returning Tuesday night and within the hour had departed this life. At the time of his death he was 45 years, 7 months and 23 days of age. He was employed by Hancock County in road maintenance. Funeral services were held at the Kanawha Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 26, with the Rev. Perry Sampson officiating. Interment was made in the Kanawha cemetery.
