Veldhouse Funeral Held at Methodist Church Friday

Funeral services were conducted for Phillip Veldhouse, 72, by the Rev. Harvey C. Travis at Clarion Methodist Church Friday, July 8 at 2 p.m. Mr. Veldhouse died of a heart attack suddenly while watching television at his home late Tuesday night, July 6. He had been in ill health for about a year.

Mrs. R. B. Comstock was the soloist and Mrs. Paul Loomis, organist. Pall bearers were Mike Jorgensen, Leonard Camer, George Blankenship, Harvey Johnson, Fred Buck and Arthur Duitscher.

Phillip Veldhouse, the son of Hiko and Jennie Veldhouse, was born in Holland on July 3, 1882. He came to America with his parents when he was 1 ½ years of age and settled in Grundy Center. The family later moved to Wright county. He was united in marriage with Bessie Spitter [Spitler] in 1905. They lived on a farm 9 miles north of Holmes until October 1915, when they returned to their home in Clarion.

There were ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Veldhouse, seven of whom survive. Two daughters and one son, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
