KANAWHA — Jennie Arends, 90, of Kanawha, died Saturday (December 8, 2007) at the Belmond Medical Center in Belmond. Funeral services for Jennie Arends will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha. The Rev. Cynthia Morrison will officiate. Burial will take place in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation for Jennie Arends will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home 118 East Second Street in Kanawha and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Services held For Jennie Arends, 90

Funeral services for Jennie I. Arends were held on Wed., Dec. 12, at the United Methodist Church, here. Jennie died at the Belmond Medical Center on Dec. 8, 2007. She was 90 years old.

Rev. Cynthia Morrison conducted the funeral service. Special music was provided by Barbara Csomay, organist, and Sherman McNiel, soloist. He sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Be Thou My Vision”. The congregational hymns were “Joy to the World” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand”. The casket bearers were these grandchildren – Todd Candor, Jay Pogge, Dennis Ziegler, Jeffrey Jones, Dan Ziegler and Doug Ziegler. The honorary casket bearers were these grandchildren – Lyn Candor, Katherine Olmsted, Barb Ziegler, Lori Jones, Daphne Pogge, Pam Ziegler and Jan Ziegler.
Interment was at the Amsterdam Township Cemetery, west of Kanawha. The Ewing Dugger Funeral Home made the arrangements for the family.

Jennie Ilene, the daughter of John and Minnie VanDusseldorp Veldhouse, was born April 12, 1917 on a farm near Kanawha. Jennie was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Kanawha. She attended country schools and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1935. On August 25, 1935 Jennie was united in marriage to Richard Arends at the Methodist parsonage in Kanawha. Following their marriage, the couple farmed southwest of Kanawha where they raised their family. Jennie lived on the farm until her death, a total of 72 years. Jennie enjoyed bowling and flower gardening. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kanawha, where she was active in UMW, taught Sunday school, and was a MYF leader. Jennie also enjoyed her time spent in the quilter’s club.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters – Dawn Marlene Ziegler and husband Lyle of Kanawha and Joyce Elaine Pogge and husband Kenneth of Kanawha. Jennie is survived by her seven grandchildren – Katherine Olmstead, Dennis Ziegler and wife Barbara, Doug Ziegler and wife Jan, Lori Jones and husband Jeffrey, Danny Ziegler and wife Pam, Jay Pogge and wife Daphne, and Lyn Candor and husband Todd. She leaves 16 great-grandchildren – Bryan (Kim), Amy and Krista Olmstead, Aaron (Kim) and Melissa Ziegler, Joshua (Jessie) and Justin Ziegler, Jonathan (Neely) and Jennifer Jones, Jaime Ziegler, Ashley, Lindsey and Zachary Pogge, Tyler, Kendall and Keaton Candor. She leaves six great-great-grandchildren – Mari-dawn, Daisy, Jillian, Jude, Jet and Christopher. She is survived by her sister Pearl Wilkenson of Kanawha. Jennie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard in 2001, a grand-daughter, Robin Lynn Pogge; a great-grandson, Nicholas Jay Pogge; a grandson-in-law, Ron Olmstead; a brother, Marion Veldhouse and a brother-in-law, Ben Wilkenson.
