BELMOND - Donald H. Lemke, 88, of Belmond, died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2007) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond. Graveside services for Donald H. Lemke will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 21, 2007, at the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme, where burial will take place.

Donald Henry Lemke was born in Garner on Nov. 17, 1919, the son of Henry F. Jr. and Daisy (Greimann) Lemke. In 1922 the family moved to Klemme where he attended the Klemme Public Grade School. Following the death of his father, he went to live with his aunt and uncle, Hulda and Fred Etchen where he assisted with the farming. When they retired to their new home in Klemme, he accompanied them and continued to care for them as long as they lived. Donald was a familiar figure on the Klemme streets as he walked at least 16 blocks daily. He enjoyed going fishing and spending holidays with his sister, Marjorie, and her family. After his own health failed, he moved to the Belmond Health Care Center for the remainder of his life.

Donald is survived by a brother, Marvin Lemke, of Des Moines; a sister, Marjorie Hefte, of Britt; a special niece, Rosemary Middleton, of Belmond who was his guardian angel; five other nieces, eight nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Leon Lemke; and a sister, Mildred McLaughlin. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
