Funeral services will be held for Ila Mae Veldhouse, 86, on Thursday, May 13, 2004 at 10:30 at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha. Rev. Cindy Morrison will officiate. Louise Hoelscher will be the organist. Pat Hartwig, soloist, will sing "Hymn of Promise" and "In the Garden". The casket bearers are Jon Wilkinson, Darrell Schnell, Kenneth Pogge, Tom Eckholdt, Lyle Siegler, and Troy Wilkinson. Interment will be at the Amsterdam Township Cemetery.
Ila Mae (Streeter) Veldhouse, 86, of Clarion died on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Mesa Elder Care Center in Mesa, Arizona. Ila, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Mason Streeter, was born July 10, 1918 in Renwick. She attended school at Corwith and graduated from Corwith High School. Ila married Marion "Bud" Veldhouse on March 27, 1940 in Boone. The couple made their home south of Kanawha, where they were engaged in farming with Bud's father, John. They continued to farm until Bud's health forced them to retire. In 1968, the couple moved to Clarion where Bud operated a brokerage firm. Following Bud's death in 1996, Ila continued to live in Clarion until 1998, when she moved to Arizona to be closer to her daughters. Ila was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was a very active member in the Ladies Aid, Women's Circle, and Bible Study. She was also a member of the Birthday Club.
Ila is survived by two daughters - Darlene Hoke of Mesa, Arizona and Jan Eckholdt and her husband Tom of Gilbert, Arizona. She is survived by five grandchildren and their families - Joanie McMahon; Jennifer Poehl and her children, Angel and Isaiah; Donovan Harrell and his children, Katie and Michael; and Deborah Harrell and her children, Chelsea, Chris and Megan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marion in 1996, one sister Lela Willey and one brother Wayne Streeter. The Ewing Dugger Funeral Home of Kanawha made the funeral arrangements.
