Evelyn Haviland, 89, of Kanawha, passed away Sunday (Sept. 17, 2000) at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha. Evelyn, the daughter of Charles and Catherine Taylor Gardener, was born Feb. 22, 1911, in Webster City. She later moved to the Blairsburg area. Evelyn was united in marriage with Harold Haviland on Sept. 3, 1927, in Webster City. The couple farmed in the Blairsburg, Woolstock and Vincent areas, before moving to Kanawha in 1946. Evelyn was employed for a number of years by various businesses in Kanawha. On Oct. 6, 1999, she became a resident of the Kanawha Community Home. She was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one son, Gene and his wife, Bev, of San Diego, Calif.; one granddaughter and one grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Harold, on Feb. 6, 1997. In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A private burial service will be held at a later date. Any memorials may be directed to the Kanawha Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Ewing Funeral Home, of Kanawha, is in charge of arrangements.
