Dallas G. Elwood was born on November 7, 1922, at Eagle Grove, Iowa to George and Margaret Jordan Elwood. He received his education in Eagle Grove. Dallas served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945. He served in the European Theater, where he earned the Bronze Star for bravery. After the service he returned to Eagle Grove. Dallas was united in marriage to Eunice Maxine Tabb on March 31, 1948, at Corwith, Iowa. The couple lived for a time in Eagle Grove and then moved to Corwith in 1956. Dallas and Eunice owned and operated Elwood’s Meat Processing and Grocery. The couple retired in 1983. Dallas was a member of the Corwith United Methodist Church. He also belonged to Elmer Wilson American Legion Post #229 at Corwith. Dallas was a member of the Iowa Meat Processing Association, where he had served as Director, Vice President and President. He also belonged to the Corwith Merchant’s Club. Dallas’s wife, Eunice preceded him in death on March 13, 2003. Due to failing health, Dallas became a resident of the Kanawha Community Home at Kanawha, Iowa. He died on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa. Dallas was 82.

Dallas is survived by his 2 sons, their spouses and 4 grandchildren, Scott Elwood and wife, Vicky and their 2 sons, Mike and Steven, Jefferson City, Missouri and Tom Elwood and wife, Ladine and their two daughters, Katie and Elizabeth of Liberty, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eunice and 8 brothers and sisters.
