Phyllis McCall, 85, the retired personal secretary of the late George Halas Jr. with the Chicago Bears Football Club for 18 years, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Jocelynne McCall. Born in Goldfield, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Florence Clements Donelson, who died in the flu epidemic of 1919. She was raised by the late Joseph and Lulu Lichty of LuVerne, Iowa. McCall lived in Franklin for the last 10 years. She was active in the Nashville Women's Club, the Scottish Society of Middle Tennessee and the Knowles Senior Citizen and the J.L. Clay Senior Citizens centers. She attended Christ Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ferguson McCall, and a daughter, Adrienne McCall Anderson. Survivors include her daughter, Jocelynne McCall, Franklin son, Jon McCall, Houston, Texas five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ Presbyterian Church, 2323 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, with Senior Pastor Charles McGowan officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service. The body will be cremated and ashes will be buried in LuVerne, Iowa.
