CHARLES J. REEDER.

C. J. Reeder died early Thursday evening at his home in this city, after an illness extending over a period of ex several months. Last winter Mr. Reeder contracted a severe cold which he was unable to throw off and which finally developed into lung trouble. He made an heróic struggle, but the disease slowly and surely sapped his m strength until friends became cognlzant of the fact that death had claimed to him and that it was only a matter of as a short time̟ until he would be called from this life.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home, Rev. W. IT. Spence of the Methodist Episcopal church being in charge. The pastor took for his text the passage of scripture chosen by Mr. Reeder’s mother to be used at her funeral, Isaiah 40:4. The remains were Interred in Evergreen cemetery.

Charles J. Reeder was born at Carn M Head, Kent county, England, on July 14th, 1826. When Charles was seven in years of age the family emigrated to n America, settling in Onelda county, New York.
Here he grew to manhood's estate. On Oct. 11th, 1815, he was married to Miss Malinda Torry, who has been his companion in life for over sixty-three years and who survives him. Two years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Reeder set their faces toward the great west, where they hoped to make a home for themselves. They settled in Walworth county, Wisconsin, and continued their residence there for a period of twenty-eight years. Then they pushed on still farther toward the setting sun, locating in Wright county thirty- three years ago. For twenty-four years they remained upon the farm, and then as the weight of years began to creep upon them they sold the old home place and moved to Clarion in order that they might enjoy the fruits of their labor during the remaining years of life. Mr. Reeder joined the Baptist church while living in Wisconsin, and remained a member of that denomination during the balance of his life.

The aged wife, now 81 years old, three children, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren sur- vive. The children are: Mrs. 'P. B. Weaver, Mrs. Thos. Waddell, and Thomas L. Reeder. and To these relatives is extended the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community. In the passing of Mr. Reeder another of our older residents is numbered with the dead. He is entitled to be remembered with the hardy pioneers who blazed the way for the great agricultural state of Iowa, and as such he ed will be held in kindly remembranced by all.
