Obituary of Mrs. Julia Jorstad
Julia Jorstad was born January 29, 1851 to parents, Sam and Ragna Mathre at Morris, Ill. She was baptized and confirmed at the age of 14 years in the Lutheran church at Morris, Ill.
On October 7, 1871, he was united in marriage to Ole Jorstad at Lisbon, Ill., by Rev. P. A. Rasmussen.
To this union was born five sons and four daughters: Sylis, Severt, Peter, Henry, Berthilde, Ida, Ezra, Rebecca and Margaret. In 1875, the family moved from Morris, Ill., to Hamilton County, Iowa, and made their home on a farm nine miles west of Story City. Retired from farming in 1920, the family moved to Eagle Grove.
Mrs. Jorstad had been failing in health the last years and died at her home on West Broadway on Wednesday, June 14, 1939, at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 16 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ole Jorstad, 10 years ago, by two sons, Sylis and Severt, by two daughters, Berthilde and Ida, by four brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca and Margaret Jorstad of Eagle Grove; by three sons, Peter of Kansas City, Kans.; Dr. Ezra of Marshall, Minn., Henry of Eagle Grove, and by one brother, Ole Larson of Jasper, Minn.
Mrs. Jorstad experienced a spiritual awakening while she lived at Story City. She has since continued steadfast in her faith, enjoying peace and assurance of salvation in Christ Jesus until her death. She was a faithful and active member of the West Side Lutheran church. She has gone to her mansion above, prepared for her by Our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Her many friends in church and community will miss her, but most of all will she be missed by her family, to whom she was a good and loving mother.
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, June 16, at the home on West Broadway, and at the West Side Lutheran church conducted by Rev. H. S. Fauske, and laid to rest at the cemetery in Story City.
