MR. RAY FELL DEAD ON STREET SATURDAY

Dan Ray, of this city [Eagle Grove, Wright Co. IA], fell dead upon the street last Saturday afternoon [8 Oct 1910], heart failure felling him to the ground without a struggle or even an outcry of any kind. Mr. Ray was some 77 years of age and was in his usual good health all day, complaining to nobody of any ailment. He had been making his home here of late with his two daughters, Mrs. J. W. [Frances] Howell and Mrs. [Margaret “Maggie”] Bandy. He fell dead in the rear of Andrew Christenson’s blacksmith shop. He was carrying some kindling for the blacksmiths to set a fire, and as he deposited his wood in the proper place he fell over dead, his right hand over his heart.

Mr. Ray was born in Ohio in 1833 [on 8 May] moved to Wisconsin in 1855. He met and married the former Nancy M. Franklin [daughter of Aaron Burr Franklin and Elizabeth Coulter]. In 1857 they came to Iowa and settled near Livermore. They resided there until the death of his wife [on 30 Apr 1900], since which time he has made his home with his children.

He lived with his daughter, Mrs. [Cora] Tucker, at Humboldt, several years, and when they moved to Prosser, Wash., he went and remained there some two years, returning to Iowa last spring.

Funeral services and burial took place at Humboldt on Tuesday.
