Verle Wayne Griemes
1 June 1907 ---- 22 November 1971

Verle Wayne Griemes was born June 1, 1907, at Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Edward H. and Virginia Belle Sanford Griemes.

He attended school at Alton, Iowa, until moving to Eagle Grove in 1916, where he continued his education, graduated from high school, and attended Eagle Grove Junior College. He was one of the finest football players ever to play for the Eagle Grove schools. He entered the U.S. Army in June 1943 and was discharged in October 1945.

Verle worked as a carpenter in later years and made his home in Marshalltown. He entered Veterans Hospital, Des Moines, on October 21, and died Monday, November 22, at the age of 64 years, 5 months, and 21 days. Verle was a member of the American Legion at Marshalltown.

He is survived by one brother, William Griemes, Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Forrest Lee Griemes, and three sisters, Alice (Mrs. Wayne Bernard), Mrs. Leola Miller, and Mrs. Beulah Butz.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 24, at 2 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home. Dr. Lloyd W. Meyer of the Church of the Open Bible officiated, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
