Martha Johnson Gjerde Berkland

Mrs. Martha Jerdde Berkland was born October 28, 1876 to Mr. and Mrs. John Jerdde, at Sandei, near Stavanger, Norway. She was baptized and confirmed in Norway. As a young lady she came to the United States, and for the most part, lived at Eagle Grove. She married Goodman Berkland. Their surviving children are one son, Arthur J. Berkland of Eagle Grove, and three daughters, Edna, Amanda, and Gladys, Mrs. Oscar Swanson of Stanhope, also a granddaughter Muriel Jean Swanson. One sister, Mrs. Johanna Carlson of Stavanger, Norway, and several nephews and nieces also survive her. She was a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church for many years, and an active member of its Women's Missionary Society. Final services will be held at Sacquety Chapel Thursday, June 14 at 2:00, Kenneth R. Torvik, pastor, in charge. Mrs. Justin Thebiay will sing, and Mrs. Marcus O. Boe will play. Interment follows at Rose Hill cemetery.
